What the species is and where it came from
The common raven (Corvus corax) is a Holarctic-distributed passerine. Its lineage split ~2 million years ago into a California clade (C. c. clarionensis) and a Holarctic clade — morphologically identical but genetically distinct.
How it works, in terms someone would actually use
It solves problems without trial-and-error. It learns from others. It remembers fair and unfair treatment. It forages across Arctic tundra, deserts, coasts and temperate forests.
