A moonbow forms when moonlight refracts through water droplets — rain, mist or waterfall spray — just like sunlight does in a solar rainbow. It appears opposite the Moon in the sky. You need a bright full moon low in a dark, cloud-free sky, under 42° elevation.
What it gets right
It replicates the physics of the solar rainbow with lunar light. It obeys the same angular rules. It reveals spectral structure when captured with long exposure — proving the light is dispersed, not monochromatic.
What it does not
It does not deliver colour to the naked eye. It does not occur without specific geometry: full moon, low elevation, darkness, and airborne water. It does not appear in daylight or under cloud cover.
