What the species is and where it came from
Geodes are not a species. They are hollow, vaguely spherical geological secondary formations found in sedimentary and volcanic rocks.
How it works, in terms someone would actually use
Geodes form when mineral-rich groundwater or hydrothermal fluids seep into pre-existing cavities — like volcanic vesicles or dissolved concretions — and deposit crystals slowly on the inner surface.
What it gets right
They accurately represent slow, inorganic crystal growth inside resistant hollow rocks exposed by weathering.
What it does not
Geodes do not eat, breathe, move, grow biologically, respond to stimuli, or participate in food webs. They have no habitat, range, predators, prey, or life history.
What it changed
Nothing biological. Geodes do not evolve, reproduce, adapt, compete, or interact with ecosystems as organisms do.
Who it is for, and who it is not
People who collect rocks, teach introductory geology, or mistake mineralogy for biology. Not for ecologists, conservationists, or field biologists.
Is it worth your time
