The Chinese giant salamander (Andrias davidianus) is a fully aquatic amphibian endemic to rocky mountain streams and lakes in the Yangtze river basin of central China. It has been introduced to Kyoto Prefecture in Japan and possibly to Taiwan.

It lives fully submerged in rocky mountain streams and lakes of the Yangtze river basin. It hunts using sensory nodes along its body, not eyesight. It eats insects, millipedes, horsehair worms, amphibians, freshwater crabs, shrimp, fish, and Asiatic water shrew.
