Drosera is a genus of at least 194 carnivorous plant species. It belongs to the family Droseraceae. It grows globally—but especially in acidic, waterlogged soils. Its range includes Australia, South Africa, and Madagascar.
How it works, in terms someone would actually use
Drosera lures insects with sweet secretions from peduncular glands. The insects land on leaves covered in glandular tentacles. Sticky mucilage traps them on contact. Death usually occurs within 15 minutes. Enzymes digest the prey. Nutrients are absorbed to compensate for poor mineral nutrition in acidic, waterlogged soils.
