Onychophora is a phylum of soft-bodied, many-legged terrestrial invertebrates. Its name means ‘claw-bearer’, referring to hardened chitinous claws. It contains two extant families: Peripatidae and Peripatopsidae. Fossil relatives include Antennacanthopodia, Antennipatus, and Cretoperipatus.
