The Portuguese man o’ war (Physalia physalis) is a marine hydrozoan siphonophore. It is found in the Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific oceans.

It floats on the ocean surface using a gas-filled pneumatophore as both buoyancy aid and wind-driven sail. Its tentacles hang up to 30 m below, armed with venomous cnidocytes that paralyse small marine animals.
