Glass frogs are arboreal amphibians in the family Centrolenidae (order Anura). They originated in South America and dispersed multiple times into Central America. They are native to Central American and Colombian rainforests.

Glass frogs live in trees in Central American and Colombian rainforests. They sleep on green leaves. Their abdominal skin is transparent or translucent. When resting, most of their blood retreats into the liver. This hides them from predators.

Their transparency conceals them effectively when sleeping on green leaves. Blood sequestration in the liver during rest makes internal organs visible only as muted shapes—not as contrast against the leaf.
